The Return of Wire

Way back in the 1980s, my brother and a couple friends started a BMX `zine. It focused on the New England riding scene at the time, and evolved and grew over the years. I made a lot of friends and learned a lot about design and writing, but after 18 issues of Radazine and 9 issues of Wire I called it quits it 1996. I renamed the `zine eWire and moved it to the web (still archived at ewirezine.com) where I learned a ton about web design and development (leading me to my current life as a designer/developer).

Late last year I was inspired to take another shot at publishing a printed `zine — 15+ years after the last issue — and Wire issue 10 was released early this month. While it lacks the personality of the old cut & paste `zines, I’m pretty happy with it — especially with the printing quality! (Things have come a long way from photocopied `zines with dark & muddy photos.)

If you’d like a copy, you can order Wire #10 here for two bucks (to cover shipping) or ask me in person if you see me. (I’ve also dropped copies off at some local bike shops, including Dick Maul’s in Halifax, B&B in Bridgewater, and Landry’s in Natick.) It’s a limited run, so get it while you can.

(Update: Wire 10 says that Radazine issue 1 was “lost to history”. I didn’t have a copy of it at the time, but I have since been hooked up with one so my collection is complete!)
