The snow is gone, my gardens are coming alive, and yet I’m still doing winter sports.
I started curling with the South Shore Curling Club about a year and a half ago. I was happily surprised to find out that the somewhat bizarre sport that I watched every four years during the winter olympics was played right in my town! I tried it out at one of their “learn to curl” sessions, it was even more fun than I thought it would be, and I’ve been a regular ever since.
2013 Worcester Cup
This past March I competed in the Worcester Cup, a bonspiel (that’s curling-speak for “tournament”) at The Country Club in Brookline, MA. At the 2012 Worcester Cup our team actually made it to the finals, where we were runners-up. We didn’t do as well this year, but we still had a lot of fun and ended up winning the D bracket. You can see photos on the SSCC site.
Learning to Curl
Last Friday we had another Learn to Curl event, introducing curling to newbies. I take most of the photos for the club, and you can see photos of people learning to curl on the SSCC site.
