I love gardening. I originally got into it because of my dislike of mowing, fertilizing, and in general taking care of the lawn. The more gardens you have, the less lawn there is. And while I do enjoy gardening, I also like to minimize my work. That’s one reason why (in general) I don’t deal with annuals: Having to replant annuals every year was just another springtime project, so now I pretty much stick with perennials.
While annuals do have their pluses – mainly a longer bloom season – you can design the garden with perennials so there’s color all year round without having to replant annuals. I’ll still use annuals here and there, mainly in buckets and planters. But even those start to look stringy, leggy, and ugly as the summer goes on, and it makes me wonder why I bother with them. I’ll post some of my favorite perennial combinations from time to time —(just check the “gardening” section to easily find them).
